Ways to pass time when stuck indoors
Find out what I have been doing to keep busy
In recent weeks, I’ve found myself stuck at home due to several things. First Storm Doris held us captive for a couple of days, then my youngest got chicken pox. She spent a lot of time sleeping, so I spent a lot of time twiddling my thumbs. She’s a really light sleeper, so noisy chores were out of the question while she snoozed.
I spent some time reading on my kindle. I reread The Reason I jump by Naoki Higashida, which gives an amazing insight into the mind of a 13 year old boy on the Autistic spectrum. My son has Autism and it really helps me to think outside the box and see things from my son’s perspective.
I spent a good few hours re-watching Will and Grace, in preparation for the new series which is out later this year. (It was one of my favourite shows for many years - were you a fan)?
When Syd was awake, we did quite a lot of baking. It seems one of the biggest Chicken Pox symptoms is an excessively sweet tooth! We baked loads of biscuits together, and my mini master chef in training helped me make American Pancakes from scratch too.
When Syd was sleeping off her Pancake coma, I spent some time on online betting sites, too. I blame my dad for my love of Lucky 15. He used to spend all Saturday morning working out who to include in his bet. I spent many weekends studying the form with him, before he traipsed down to the bookies. Back when I was a teenager, you had to go into the bookies to put your bet on - I’m glad that’s not the case anymore - I don’t think I’d bother if you did.
Something else I did, while stuck at home all week was finally phone some of my relatives for a gossip. I spoke to 2 of my Aunts and one of my Uncles - I do love a good catch up! They all live 200+ miles away so I can’t just pop round for a brew, like I do with the relatives who live close by. I do love hearing all the latest gossip, though.
I spent a fair bit of time sorting through my wardrobe too - The doors finally close now - HOORAY! What do you like to do when you’re stuck indoors with poorly children?
