Banishing the January Blues

Every January is the same – Post Christmas MEH as I refer to it… No more parties, no more excitement, back to the grind and feeling the pinch.

In past years, I have moped around and counted down the days until February. This year, I decided to do a few things to help January pass by with a little more fun and a little less tediousness.

The first thing I did was take advantage of Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited deal – I got 3 months for £1.99 so I had access to loads of books to read. (I’m a huge bookworm, and this is a fab way to read loads on my kindle without spending loads). I used to favour the library for books, but I love to read in bed, so my backlit kindle wins these days, as my eyes aren’t what they once were!

I love to have a flutter online, and found some great joining offers. Pay £5 and play with £30 was a great saving, and killed the boredom over a couple of nights.

I took advantage of the free trial of Netflix as well – this meant we had some new box sets to binge watch.

Something else I did, which has definitely kept me active was sign up for Red January with MIND, to help raise pennies and awareness for this fab cause. This has seen me getting outdoors and more active every day this month. Most people taking part have ran every day, but it’s been dog walks every day for me. It’s been challenging at times, but views like this make it worthwhile…

One other thing which has helped me feel better this January has been Slimming World. I joined back in December, and have been to group every week since. The group support to keep active, eat better and stay on track has definitely helped me to stay smiling.

January is almost over now, but February is likely to be just as challenging for me. I hate Winter, and cannot wait for Spring to roll around. Until then, it’ll be lots of home made Veg Soup to keep me warm and full, plenty of cosy nights in, reading my kindle or catching up on Box Sets.
