It’s day 11 of Blogtober, and today we are celebrating #InternationalDayOfTheGirl. Today’s prompt is: Kickass girls you adore.
There are so many girls (and women) I love, that I found it really hard to choose one. I’m going to talk about two fictional girls who have inspired me and my daughter.
Roald Dahl’s book inspired me to read when I was a child, and I am so glad that Syd, too has been spurred on to love books by Matilda. She loved Matilda and (somewhat unusually)… Verruca Salt from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! (I’m not sure how I feel about that)!
I’ve been a huge Harry Potter fan since the first film came out. I watched the first 3 films before I picked up any of the books. The books paint Hermione in an even more amazing way than the films do. She’s a strong, opinionated girl, with a big heart and a passion to help those who need it. Her campaign to help House Elves made a huge impact on me.
Admit it – Hermione is one of the girls you adore too!
And In Real Life
When Emma Watson, who plays Hermione gave her speech at the UN’s HeForShe launch, she blew me away. “If not me, then who? If not now, then when”? I basically live by that mantra. When Sam’s only option was a school I hated, I set about getting a new school opened.
My daughter and I have read the first Harry Potter book together now, and she already loves Hermione. I can’t wait to see what she makes of book 2!
Who are the girls you adore most? In real life and in fiction too? I’d love to know who inspires you.
