Both Sam and Syd are huge fans of bubbles, so when I received the Messi Footbubbles Starter Set to review, I knew it would be a hit.
Rather than spend ages going into detail about what’s included and how it works, I made this short demo video…
As the video shows, the bubbles bounce off your socks, so you can master tricks and impress your friends with your ball skills.
One thing which I do want to mention is that once the socks get damp, the bubbles pop on contact. We got around 10 minutes’ play from them before they were too wet to use. They did work with other “sports” socks too though, so it’s not the end of the world.
It took me a while to work out that it’s best to blow a bubble then wave the wand to get it to float away. They just pop once they get too big, otherwise. The solution itself is different to “standard” bubbles, as the bubbles are more resilient. They don’t pop when they make contact with dry furniture, floor or clothing, much to Sam's delight!
The socks themselves feel a bit itchy to begin with, but are ok after a trip through the washing machine. The set is aimed at children aged 6+ but my 3 year old managed to blow bubbles easily, and kick them. (Admittedly, the socks were too big for her though - She's a UK Child size 8). The set is available with various colour socks. The socks are very stretchy, and just about fitted me (UK adult size 7). Sam is a UK child size 11 and they fitted him too.
All told, the Messi Footbubbles Starter Set is a fun stocking filler. If your football mad child hates being stuck indoors when it’s too cold to be out, this is a good compromise on the “No ball games in the house” rule most families have.
I’d give it 4/5. Losing a mark because the socks stop working once damp. With an RRP of £13.99, this is a good value toy. You can purchase bubble refills from Amazon, so the set can still be used once the solution runs out.
This is not a sponsored post. We were sent the item to review, but all words and opinions are my own.
