Real Mums All Bran Challenge

Last Month, I was sent 3 boxes of Kelloggs All Bran cereal, so I could participate in the All Bran Real Mums 5 day Challenge. The challenge was to eat a bowl of All Bran for breakfast each day for 5 consecutive days to see if it made me less bloated and eased digestive issues.

I decided to be very precise and weigh out the serving exactly, so I could give it a thorough review. The first thing that struck me was how small one portion was. I poured the 45g of Chocolate Wheats into my usual cereal bowl and gasped at how little was in there. I decided to move the contents to a smaller bowl to see if that tricked me into thinking I was eating more. This was how it looked…

The normal bowl was easily 80% empty, while the ice cream bowl was 80% full. Usually, I’d fill the large bowl up, cover it with milk and eat it. I dread to think how many calories I was putting away before I started this challenge. I decided I would eat my breakfast from an ice cream bowl every day after that.

I am in the process of losing my baby weight, so portion control is a major factor for me at the moment. Rather than cutting out everything I love, I am eating smaller amounts. I have lost 13.5lb in 6 weeks doing this.

Back to the #RealMumsAllBran challenge… I ate a bowl each morning (I am now on week 3). To begin with, I was really hungry within 2 hours. After 3 days, I got used to the smaller portion though, and it now keeps me satisfied until lunch time! I even posted a photo to instagram sharing my thoughts, and a photo of the Red Berry Crunch All Bran…

This week, I mixed things up a bit. Instead of adding my usual skimmed Cow’s Milk to my All Bran, I switched it for St Helen’s Farm Skimmed Goat’s Milk. I find Goat’s Milk isn’t as sweet as Cow’s milk, but when teamed with All Bran Golden Crunch (my favourite of the 3 cereals), it is delicious.

So… do I feel any better as a result of the #RealMumsAllBran challenge? YES. I am not 100% sure if I feel less bloated because I am eating less, or if it is because I am eating All Bran, but either way… It’s helped me to lose 13.5lb in 6 weeks, and drop a dress size! I was bursting out of my size 16’s on 14th June, but now I have room in my size 14 jeans!

I have been reducing portion sizes across the board, cutting out unnecessary snacks and limiting sweet treats, so this isn’t 100% down the the All Bran. I do definitely think it has helped me massively, though. My advice: invest in a set of kitchen scales and weigh out your serving – you’ll be amazed just how small it is!

One final note… My favourite of the 3 cereals was definitely Golden Crunch… I am not a fan of really sweet cereals, so I found the Chocolate Wheats were too sweet for breakfast. My Hubby loved them, though. The Red Berry Crunch are delicious, but contain a lot more calories than Golden Crunch.
