Today I’m sharing some ideas for fun family days out involving animals. As summer is getting closer and closer the worry of thinking of things to do and how to keep it fun creeps in. With kids being tough to entertain sometimes, we understand the pain that you will go through trying to come up with ideas.

If you have a child that’s obsessed with animals then you have a range of possibilities of what you can do, but which are the best? Keep reading for some great suggestions of fun family days out involving animals.

Zoo 

As animal days go, the zoo is probably the most popular. The main issue with zoos is the question of the cruelty of the establishments. If you are on the side of the animals being safe in their zoos and aquariums, then you and your family will love a family day at the zoo. It’s worth researching their conservation policy before you book. 

Seeing all of these fascinating animals and seeing how they eat, live and interact is a privilege that we may overlook. You can learn as a family about the animals and how they live. It is a great day and a learning experience. They can be pricey though, so look out for deals if you want good value family days out involving animals at the zoo. 

Aquarium

Similar to the zoo, an aquarium is a great way to learn and see animals that we would not be able to see normally. It is interesting to see fish that usually we would not be able to interact with. However, people are often more disapproving of aquariums than zoos.

Aquariums can be a lot smaller, and this means the animals living in them often get less space than they would in the wild. So of course, many people see this as cruel. There are many wonderful Aquariums that do a lot of good when it comes to conservation though. Sealife in the UK is one such venue. They are a great place to visit if you want indoor family days out involving animals and sea life.

Petting Zoo

The most interactive of the fun family days out involving animals we will mention today is the petting zoo. Petting zoos are all over the world and offer different things. Depending on the time of year, some petting zoos offer the chance to feed lambs and chicks.

The fun doesn’t stop there, either, as many petting zoos offer the chance to ride on the horses or even milk the cows! Depending which petting zoo you visit, you may even find a bunny or two! 

The Stables

If you visit a local stables, the horses can often be fed, and you can see how big they are in real life. If you choose to ride a horse, you will realise how difficult it is, which will make you appreciate the challenge that jockeys must go through during horse races. Of course, if we are focusing on animal cruelty, I am a firm believer that riding crops and whips should be abolished. 

That said, trainers like Willie Mullins spend years training each horse, to be in with the best chances of winning the races they participate in. Mullins has the most Cheltenham winners to date, so his methods clearly work. A lot of horses participating in the Irish Grand National, like 2023 winner I am Maximus, further proving his talent in training horses. 

The Beach

If you have a dog, a trip; to the beach can be a disaster, or the best day ever. Personally, I’d highly recommend it though. Kids love their pets, and seeing their dogs run around and have a good time will make the little ones want to do the same.

All that fresh sea air, and enjoying some nice beach food will make for a great day. Also, chances are that your children will have a great night’s sleep, so you can have a nice calming evening too. 

Final Thoughts on Family Days Out Involving Animals

Of the five family days out involving animals we have mentioned, my personal favourite is a beach day with the kids and dogs. It is a day that your kids will remember, and you will be able to have a good time too. Depending on your proximity to the seaside, your day out can cost almost nothing.
