Easy Ways to Generate Backlinks in 2026

Sharing is Caring!

Today I’m sharing some easy ways to generate backlinks in 2026. Whether you’re a blogger like me, a small business, or a startup looking to boost your brand’s Domain Authority, building backlinks is a key element of successful SEO. With that in mind, I thought I’d break it down into manageable chunks today, so you can make the most of my 15 years of SEO experience. If you follow my steps, it’ll enable your website to rank higher in search results, see an increase in traffic and overall success, to boot.

What Are Backlinks?

Before we jump into the ins and outs of how to see success with backlink generator, let’s start at the beginning! If you imagine each website on the starting line of a race, and each backlink they have gives them a slight head start on their competitors, you’ll hopefully understand why websites with more backlinks show higher on search engine results. That’s the basic principal of backlinks.

It goes deeper in that if someone searches for a specific phrase, and you have more backlinks on that phrase (or keyword), then you’ll rank higher than a competitor who has less backlinks with that specific phrase. For example, if a worldwide news organisation has 5 million backlinks altogether, and you only have 500, you’ll rank higher if you have 5 to the keywords searched for. I could talk about this for days, but that’s the basic principals of how backlinks work.

Why do I need to Build Backlinks?

If you proactively work to build backlinks to your website, it’ll likely see an increase in traffic (and revenue) much faster than it would if you waited for it to happen naturally. While it’s not strictly necessary to be generating backlinks to your website, doing so will – in theory, speed up your website’s growth.

How to Generate Backlinks for my Website

The quickest and easiest ways to generate backlinks are to set up your website’s accounts on social media, and to add your website on the profile you create. Do this for Facebook, Insta, Pinterest, X, Youtube, TikTok and Snapchat. While they may not all boost your backlinks, they’ll boost your brand.

Pinterest Pins

Creating Pinterest pins which linked back to my website was one of the best ways of generating backlinks to my website that I found when I was starting up my blog. I use Canva to create an eye-catching pin, then uploaded these to Pinterest with links to the posts they related to. Try to use relevant keywords in the Pin’s title so people can find it. This is a great way to boost traffic as well as a good way to build backlinks.

If you’re a blogger like me, lots of fellow bloggers will be happy to host your content on their website, with a backlink, if you reciprocate. This can be a brilliant way to gain exposure and also extra traffic to your blog, as well as generating backlinks in the process.

Brand Collaborations are a Great Backlink Builder

Collaborations can be a great way for small businesses to build backlinks and gain exposure in the process. I love the service Get Blogged provides for this. Businesses post their request, guidelines and criteria, and then bloggers pitch to the business.

Bloggers can say what they’d charge for the work, and what the business can expect. The business can then hire as many applicants as they want to, or none, if nobody fits the bill. I’ve been using Get Blogged to find businesses to collab with for several years now, and have found some lovely brands I’d never have known about, otherwise.

Final Thoughts on Building Backlinks for my Website

Now you have a few ways of generating backlinks, it’s important to remember to keep it natural. Buying a ton of irrelevant backlinks won’t help you overall. While having a Domain Authority (DA) of 40+ is an achievement for any website, it won’t help you convert traffic if your pages aren’t relevant to people’s searches. For example, a blog with twice the DA I have won’t beat me on google rank for a post on “ways to generate backlinks”, if they don’t have a well-written post on the subject.

Likewise, I’ll never outrank a New Zealand based blog, in a google search for restaurants in Auckland, because I have no content on that subject. It’s all relative. When considering good SEO practice, remember that you want to win relevant traffic, not just see an increase in traffic for the sake of it.

One last Thing:

Google hates AI – Don’t use it to generate content!
