Today I’m sharing some great summer staycation tips. Summer time is the perfect opportunity for a family holiday, especially since the kids are out of school and the weather tends to perk up a bit. It’s the perfect time to explore what the UK has to offer. But there are a few things to consider and do before going on a staycation. Keep reading for some summer staycation tips.
Great Summer Staycation Tips
The first piece of advice I can give when it comes to sharing summer staycation tips is to set a budget and stick to it. Plan your trip around your budget, and add 20% spending money on for miscellaneous items. Things will always crop up – ruined trainers, a lost coat, needing extra fuel. So the emergency fund is definitely essential.
Plan in Advance
As you probably already know, planning a holiday can be a lot of hard work, but it is definitely worth taking advantage of early bird offers and discounts. You could sign up to newsletters for attractions you are interested in visiting, as well as accommodation providers.
If you are looking for a budget friendly staycation, there are plenty of free or low-cost attractions that will keep the whole family entertained. You could have an unforgettable holiday without breaking the bank. If you already have equipment, camping can give you the means to get away more often.

Pack Your own Food
Eating out for every meal of the holiday is where costs can slowly start to creep up. To save money you could bring breakfast foods with you, as well as basic lunch ingredients to make picnics during the day.
Not only will this cut costs, but it may also decrease the stress of trying to find different places to eat everyday.
Look for Family-Friendly Accommodation
Depending on where you choose to go, there is usually quite a wide variety of different accommodation sites to choose from including campsites, caravan parks, cottages and apartments.
You should find accommodation that best suits your family’s needs and budget, as well as finding a location that is either within a driving or public transport distance from sites you want to see. Plenty of campsites are great for kids too.

Prep the Car
If you’re going to drive on your staycation you should always make sure that your car is fully prepped for the journey there and back. This can include filling your tyres with air, getting enough fuel, making the car kid proof for long journeys and having everything packed in an organised way.
You will also want to double check your insurance is in date and that anybody who is going to be driving is insured on the car. Police can check on the motor insurance database (MID) if they have suspicions about your vehicle. The last thing you want is to be stranded unable to drive your car anywhere on your staycation as you weren’t correctly insured.
Travel During Off-Peak Times
One of the best ways to save money and see everything you want to, is by travelling during off-peak periods. If you can travel during the week, or even outside of school holidays if you don’t have kids who are required to be in school, you should find that accommodation and attractions will be cheaper.

This is a great option if you have flexibility with your dates, and if you’re travelling with your family it is a great way to make it more affordable.
Take Advantage of Kids’ Clubs
If your accommodation offers kids clubs, don’t be scared to take advantage of it! It can be a great way to encourage your kids to interact with other children, and can give you some much deserved time alone or with your partner.
By following these summer staycation tips, you will hopefully be able to have an enjoyable summer staycation in the UK. You can’t be in control of everything, but it’s worth thinking ahead and taking control of what you can.
