4 Helpful Tips for Planning Your Home Move

Sharing is Caring!

Today I’m sharing key tips for planning your home move. We’ve pretty much all had to experience the stress of moving home at least once in our lives. It’s a lot to handle, having to literally pull up your whole life, move it, and then plunk it down in another location over just a few days.

One of the best ways to make that process easier, cheaper and less stressful is to properly plan it out beforehand. From coming up with a timeline to taking time off work, here’s how you should start with the planning process.

Come up With a Timeline

The first thing you need to do is come up with a rough timeline over which you expect to complete the move. This should include literally everything, from finding a new flat to handing over the keys to the landlord or new owner.

In most cases, this process will take several months to complete. You don’t want to have to rush looking for a new home, and the more time you have to do everything, the less stressful you’ll find it.

Make sure that you leave buffer periods for each task, so that if there’s a delay or something goes wrong, you’re not left in a difficult situation when planning your home move.

Book Important Services

Relatively early on, it’s a good idea to book any important services you’re going to use for the move. Whether that’s a removals service like Bright Movers or a cleaning company to get your old place spick and span for the final inspection, you don’t want to leave this until the last minute.

Doing your research and booking in the main dates early on will mean that you get to choose between a much larger range of options when planning your home move, in most cases meaning that you’ll get a better service for less money, even when booking Spain removals in advance.

Declutter and Pack

Next, you’ll want to plan how you’re going to declutter and pack up all your belongings. You can do this in a number of different ways, such as by room or by type of object. Unless you’re moving into a very similar home layout, it can be a good idea to pack by type of object.

This makes it easier to sort through things and unpack them in the right places, without having to guess what you had on a certain shelf or in a specific cupboard.

Try to also clear out as much as you can while you do this, so that you don’t bring clutter into your new home. The more time you have to do this, the more effective your efforts will be when planning your home move.

Take Time off Work and Sort out pet & Childcare

Lastly, when planning your home move, you’ll want to make sure that you have enough time off to actually deal with the move itself. Even if you’re moving over a weekend, you’ll probably want to take a Friday or Monday off, to give you just a bit more breathing room.

If you have pets or children, you might also want to arrange for them to be taken care of somewhere else during the big stress of the moving day itself. Organise this early on to keep things as stable as possible.

Tackling planning in this manner should make the process a lot easier to handle. It takes a bit of forward thinking and diligence, but it will make a huge difference to how you experience the stress of moving house.
