Ten Minutes Peace – 1 Honest Account

Sharing is Caring!

What would you do with ten minutes peace? If you read my blog regularly, you’ll already know I drive my son to school, 11 miles away from home. Sometimes this journey takes 20 minutes, sometimes it takes an hour. When I collect him after school, I sometimes have ten minutes peace before any other parents arrive. On these days, I stop at the garage near school and treat myself to a Vanilla Latte.

Once I arrive at school and indulge in 10 minutes of me time. Sometimes this means reading a chapter of whatever book I’m reading on my kindle app, occasionally I phone my sister for a chat.

Yesterday, I pulled out my phone and decided to have a flutter. I don’t know why, but I get a massive kick out of the roulette table. Firstly, there’s pretty much a 50/50 chance of doubling your money… If you stick to red or black, or odds vs evens (like I do). It is total chance though – there’s no real skill involved.

I don’t smoke and I don’t drink, so my vice is £10 a week to spend online gambling. It gives me a buzz. Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose. Yesterday, I won – I decided to play one of the slots – “When Pigs Fly” and somehow my £10 turned into £117! And then £150!

GOOD TIMES!

That was the point I gave up and withdrew my winnings! £140 up! I practically skipped to the school doors after that, and then I treated the kids to some new clothes with my “winnings” once we got home.

If you’d have told me 10 years ago I’d be giddy after winning £5 in a game of roulette, I’d have thought you were bonkers.

Things change though. Ten minutes peace when I was 20 years old might have involved a vodka and coke, or a sun-bed session. Online gambling isn’t for everyone, but it’s definitely better for my health than either of those choices were.

I am well aware that my win yesterday was down to chance – Which is why I have the deposit limits set up on my account, and I’d recommend everybody sets them up. I can see how people get addicted to the feeling of winning.

It’s about balance though. I personally see my £10 a week habit as much less harmful than some other habits I could have. Finally, if you enjoyed this post, check out my lifestyle category! Finally, why not follow me on insta?
