Theme and Layout
There are lots of different themes you can go down. You will likely want to stick to your specialism, whether that is in ceramics, textiles, sculpting, general arts and crafts or specific seasonal editions. Decide whether you’ll be an adult only class, or if you’ll offer kids craft sessions.
You’ll also need to decide whether your workshop will be in person or virtual, and that will depend on the nature of what you are demonstrating, and who the audience is. Virtual events will open the audience up across different locations, but might not work practically.
Make Sure you are Insured
It is essential to make sure you are covered against all eventualities. This is particularly important with crafts which might involve knives, soldering irons, hot objects etc. which pose a greater risk of injury, and therefore claims against you.

You also need to consider any materials your attendees may be using. Do you want them to bring their own, or will you be supplying them? You should ensure that attendees know this in advance.

If you decide you are doing your workshop in person, do your research to find an appropriate venue. Consider executing a SWOT analysis to evaluate potential spaces effectively. There are several factors to consider here:

- Are public transport links good?
- Is there parking nearby?
- How costly is it?
The Time
- How late is the venue open?
- Are you going to hold it in the evening or during the weekend?
- How long do you need the space for?
- How long do you need before/after the workshop to set up/pack away?

- Is it big enough?
- Does it have accessible access?
- Is it private enough?
Would it be warm in winter and cool in summer?

It’s no good setting up the perfect craft workshop if nobody knows about it! There are countless free ways to market your event online, from social media through to Eventbrite listings.
Asking other crafters in your network to share the event will ensure you reach your target audience. You could maybe even offer an early bird discount to incentivise faster ticket sales.
