Today I’m sharing some tips to secure gig tickets on release day. I’m 40-ish now, and have attended dozens of gigs in my time. Back in 1995, my sister took me to see Oasis in Manchester for my 12th birthday. Less than a week later, I saw Blur. A lot has changed in the ticket buying process since then. How we Bought Gig Tickets Back in the Day

A lot has changed since I first started attending live music shows. Gone are the lengthy queues at the box office, instead it’s a complicated system of pre-sale tickets, release day tickets, and then resale. Back in 1995, my sister spent her lunch hour queueing at Manchester Box Office to secure gig tickets on release day for Oasis and Blur.

By 1999, I was queuing myself at 6am on a Saturday morning to secure Eminem tickets for my sister, my friends and I. Fast Forward to 2000, and I phoned the Box Office to buy 2 tickets to see Oasis perform at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton.

Now it’s far easier to buy your tickets online. There are a few things you can do to ensure you’re successful in your mission to secure gig tickets on release day. For me personally, I use Ticketmaster. I find it to be the most reliable method, although it is super important you don’t use a VPN, and that you are only logged in on ONE device. If it detects multiple logins, their system will boot you, thinking you’re a tout or a bot.

So if you want to secure oasis 2027 tickets, choose one device and stick with that. (I use my laptop so I can use my phone to stay in touch with others who are trying to get tickets as well).

What to Do Before Release Day

For me personally, I think it’s essential to subscribe to all of your favourite artist’s mailing lists. They often announce tours and pre-sale access via these emails… (Oasis 2025, anyone)? I’ve been successful in securing tickets to see Oasis in 2025, Foo Fighters, The Killers, Coldplay, Alanis Morissette, Ed Sheeran and many other artists using Pre-Sale codes. Follow the artists you love on Ticketmaster and Spotify too, for the same reason.

It’s also super important to register on your ticket seller website of choice. For me, that’s Ticketmaster. Download the app to your phone, if that’s where you’ll be buying tickets, login and save your card details to your account. This will mean no timeouts on ticket release day, and will help you to secure gig tickets on release day. If you haven’t already, sign up to the OASIS MAILING LIST.

Work out Semantics

It’s also super important you know how many tickets you’re buying. There’s usually a 4 -6 tickets limit, per order. (Oasis 2025 was 4 tickets per person, while other gigs have been a maximum of 6). It is important that you know what kind of ticket you want, and which are definitely no-nos. For me, standing is always better than being sat in the gods. I hate sitting in the high seats, so would rather skip a show than sit up there. You won’t have time to decide in the moment, so figure it out in advance to help you secure gig tickets on release day.

Make sure you decide among you if you want to buy ticket insurance. For me, it’s a yes as I have kids so anything could happen that prevents me attending. I ended up in hospital in 2024, and missed a gig. Ticketmaster’s insurance paid out on mine and my partner’s tickets.

If you’re travelling to the gig from out of town, book a fully refundable hotel room as soon as the gig is announced – before the prices shoot up closer to ticket release day. That way if you’re not successful, you’re not out of pocket. If you’re buying online tickets, you sometimes have to print them at home, so make sure you have access to a printer.

Also, ensure you have enough money in your account to pay for all of the tickets. Some artists don’t announce prices until the tickets go on sale. This is annoying, but can also work to your advantage later on. (Keep reading to find out how).

How To Secure Gig Tickets on Pre-Sale Release Day

When you know a pre-sale is coming up, set a reminder on your phone for 30 minutes before sales open. This will give you time to find your presale code or link, and sign into Ticketmaster. This is essential so you don’t forget to secure gig tickets on release day.

The artist, band or record label will usually send out an email with a presale link or code through to you a few hours before the pre-sale opens, so keep an eye on your inbox, and check your spam folder if you can’t find it. They occasionally send them via text message as well, so check your text messages. You’ll be asked to use the link to buy, or enter the code when you order via Ticketmaster. The rest of the process is the same as on general release day, which I’ve explained fully below.

How To Get Oasis Tickets on Release Day

Some people like to log into Ticketmaster on several devices just in case one crashes. Personally I find this only works if you have different logins. For example, if I’m signed in on 2 devices and device A crashes, device B still looks like I’m in the queue but will usually time out when I get to the front as it has me near the bottom on device A.

Trust me on this. You NEED to be signed in to secure gig tickets on release day. The last thing you want is to risk it then for your password to have expired or you forget your login and lose the tickets. If you’re going with a friend, by all means, both of you try for tickets via your different logins, just in case. (Make sure you both have the funds available on your linked card to pay for the tickets, though).

Once Tickets are Released – Oasis 2027 Tickets, Anyone?

Once the tickets go on sale, tap or click to buy them via Ticketmaster. 99% of the time, you’ll be placed in a queue. Be patient. Don’t close the window or open a different app. When you get to the front of the queue on pre-sale day, you’ll be asked to put in the presale code. After this step and on general release day, you’ll be shown all of the ticket options and prices.

Select the tickets you want and submit. A Timer will be counting down, so don’t be too indecisive. If you run out of time, you’ll be thrown to the back of the queue. Once you hit submit, you’ll be taken to the payment page. This is where saving your card details earlier becomes a game changer! The clock will still be ticking down, so speed is everything. You’ll have to enter your 3 digits off the back of the card so have that handy.

Once you’ve done this, you’ll be shown a confirmation page! That’s it – You secured tickets!

What Happens if it Says Sold Out When you get Through the Queue?

Don’t give up! Remember I mentioned early that not knowing the price in advance can work in your favour? Quite often, people don’t check out the tickets in their basket. This could be because they are too expensive, or their friend was successful first. Either way, don’t give up right away.

I thought I’d missed out on Oasis 2025 and Coldplay tickets, but my stubbornness got me tickets to both shows over two hours after the website first told me they’d sold out. Keep joining the queue. If it tells you again they’ve sold out, try again, and again. This is my biggest tip to help you secure gig tickets on release day. It’s saved me so many times!
