Therapeutic Weighted Blanket with Washable Cover – 1 Honest Review

Sharing is Caring!

We have been using weighted blankets for years, but when I heard about the Kudd.ly Therapeutic Weighted Blanket with a washable cover, I was keen to give it a go! So keep reading to find out how we got on, when we were sent one to review…

Who Needs a Therapeutic Weighted Blanket?

Weighted Blankets are great for people who struggle with sensory regulation, anxiety, stress and more. They use deep pressure touch to provide therapeutic relief from anxiety and stress, and can also help to reduce insomnia, promote deeper sleep, and in turn improve your energy levels during the day.

Last year, I was sent a Kudd.ly cooling weighted blanket to review, which has been a game changer for my own insomnia. Since then, my daughter has been asking for her own. She isn’t diagnosed, but I suspect she’s ADHD, and she also loves deep pressure relief. My 12 year old son is Classically Autistic and has sensory processing disorder. He loves weighted blankets & was quick to test-drive this one!

Kudd.ly have a wide range of Weighted Blankets, as well as heaps of other products. I have had their cooling weighted blanket for almost a year, and it’s still as good as new, despite daily use. I’ve also been sent their hooded poncho towel, which I think will be a game changer for my wild swimming adventures, and changing Sam when we are at the beach this Summer! (I’ll be sharing my review of that ASAP)!

Therapeutic Weighted Blanket sizes and weight advice
Therapeutic Weighted Blanket sizes and weight advice

The Kudd.ly Therapeutic Weighted Blanket comes in two size options. Standard is roughly the size of a single duvet, and King is roughly the size of a UK Double duvet.

There are 3 weight options… 4kg, 6.8kg and 9kg. The smallest, standard 4kg size Therapeutic Weighted Blanket has an RRP of £138 but is currently £89, and the largest (King, 9kg) has an RRP of £188 but is currently £99.

Kudd.ly advise you should choose a blanket which is 7-13% of your body weight. So if you weigh 30-50kg, get the 4kg weight. If you weigh 51-85kg, choose the 6.8kg option and finally, if you’re over 85kg, the heaviest blanket will work best for you.

Each comes with 1x removable washable cover, which can be washed on a gentle, 30 degree wash, but isn’t suitable for tumble drying. The inner weighted blanket is spot-clean only.

First Impressions

When I received the Kudd.ly Therapeutic Weighted Blanket, I was super impressed with the quality. It arrived with the cover already on, so I took it out of the packaging and straight onto my own bed. I loved the fact one side of the cover is made from cooling bamboo fabric, while the other is a super soft fleece, which is lovely and snuggly. This double sided cover means the weighted blanket is suitable for year-round use.

The weighted blanket is filled with anti-rustle, glass micro sand beads. These are encased in double-stitched pockets, and silently mould to your body’s shape. This makes for a peaceful nap! (Remember, weighted blankets aren’t recommended for overnight use for kids under 8 or those with breathing or mobility issues)!

Overall Opinion:

As I expected, as soon as Syd saw the new weighted blanket, she promptly stole it! For the past month, she’s been sleeping much better. She wakes in a better mood and seems to sleep more deeply. When I suggested we take it off her bed for washing, she asked me to wait until she was at her dad’s. I’m taking that as a sign she loves it!

I love that the weighted blanket boasts being OEKO-TEX® certified. This means it’s suitable for sensitive skin, and no harmful chemicals or synthetics are used. Between Syd and I having latex allergies, and Sam having allergy triggered asthma, this is a big plus for us.

Sam took full advantage of his sister’s absence to give it a whirl, when she was at their dad’s house…

I think that smile shows that Sam approves of the therapeutic weighted blanket.

No measurements are shown on the website for the dimensions of the therapeutic weighted blankets, but the cover label says it measures 48×78 inches (which is 120cm x 195cm). This means it’s wider than a single duvet cover, but slightly shorter, as they are 140x200cm.

I washed the cover on a delicate wash at twenty degrees, and dried it on the washing line. I usually put everything on a second spin before going onto the washing line, but given the need for this to be washed on a delicate cycle, I didn’t do that. It took longer than a standard diver cover to dry, but it was dry after a full day on the washing line on a sunny day. (Rare in Manchester, admittedly)!

The cover has 14 ties attached to it, which you tie onto the loops sewn into the inner part of the weighted blanket. It’s fiddly and you do need to make sure you’ve got it the right way round, but it’s worth taking the time to tie it well. The ties keep the blanket in place, so no duvet slippage occurs!

All things considered, I feel this therapeutic weighted blanket is brilliant value for money. I know from the fact my other kudu.ly sensory blanket is almost a year old, that it’s built to last. If you’re someone who eats or drinks in bed and is liable to spill crumbs or such like, being able to wash and dry the cover in a single day is a game changer.

Add in the fact spare covers are available, and it’s a 10/10 from me.

Things to Note:

It’s worth noting that spare therapeutic weighted blanket covers are available for this weighted blanket, and they cost £59 each. I’m secretly hoping these are on offer soon, so I can stock up on spares.

A Weighted Blanket is designed for single-person use. If you share a bed with your partner, you’re best off ordering two of the standard sized weighted blankets, so each of you is fully cocooned. If you share one unit, you will not get the same “safe” feeling, or beneficial effects of a Therapeutic Weighted Blanket.

Finally, let me know in the comments if you’ve got a therapeutic weighted blanket – I’d love to know what you think of it.
