The Origin Hybrid Pro Mattress

Origin Mattresses first hit my radar late last year. Unfortunately for me, I’d only just upgraded all of our mattresses, so when they reached out to ask me to review one, I reluctantly declined. Fast forward to April, and my sister became poorly. She needs surgery that will involve a lengthy period of bed-rest to aid her recovery, so I got back in touch with Origin to see if they’d let my sister review an Origin Hybrid Pro Mattress on my behalf, and they agreed.

My sister received a double Origin Hybrid Pro Mattress and two Origin Coolmax Latex Pillows a month ago, so she’s had plenty of time to put them through their paces since then. Last week, I went round to see her, and take some photos of the products. (She’s still awaiting her surgery date, so isn’t on bed-rest yet).

First Impressions

The first thing I thought when I saw the double Origin Hybrid Pro Mattress was how deep it is! It’s 31cm tall, which is double the height of most budget mattresses, and 3cm deeper than the Simba Pro mattress my daughter has. This will be a big help to my sister when she’s recovering as it’s far easier to get on and off than her old, low mattress was.

The handles on the side are fabric, and sit flush with the mattress. This allows your fitted sheet to look super sleek, with no lumps and bumps. I found it easier to spin this mattress using these handles, compared to my own gel mattress, which I physically cannot rotate without help.

How Firm is it?

The mattress firmness level adapts to the weight of the user, and it can be anywhere between 6 – 7 (on a scale of 1-10). This places it in the medium-firm category, which is preferred by the majority of British sleepers. It’s also the firmness recommended by sleep experts, for adequate back support.

I want to take the time to list some of the key information about the Origin Hybrid Pro Mattress…

This mattress contains 5,700+ Sleep-Engineered Titanium Springs, which means you don’t feel any lumps and bumps, like you can on cheaper mattresses. It also boasts 8 Comfort Layers, which further add to the pillow-like feel of the mattress, along with the extra plush pillowtop.

The enhanced pressure relief makes it great for people who are prone to joint pain, or those (like my sister) who will spend longer than normal in bed. The Bamboo-infused wool which pads out the mattress is hypoallergenic, which means less dust particles will stick to it. This is great news for those with dust allergies.

The ultra-cooling, graphite-infused latex layer means you won’t get as hot in the middle of the night. This is great news for women of a certain age, as well as everyone else, for the 2 weeks of Summer the UK usually gets. If you have a latex allergy, you may want to proceed with caution, though.

The mattress can’t be flipped – you spin it from top to bottom to rotate it. This is super easy, thanks to the handles on the side.

Pillow Talk

When I went to visit, it seemed only fair that I have a little siesta on her new Origin Hybrid Pro Mattress and Origin coolmax latex pillow myself – so I did just that…

The removable cover is brilliant – it zips open and is machine washable too. This will keep the pillow looking brand new for years to come! It’s super comfy too.

My Sister’s Thoughts on the Origin Hybrid Pro Mattress

Given that it’s my sister who has been sleeping on the Origin Hybrid Pro Mattress, it seems only fair I share her review – word for word. I asked her to text me her review, and it went like this…

“This is the best mattress I’ve ever had – it’s an absolute joy to go to bed now. I don’t wake up with backache any more, and it just feels so nice and cushiony compared to my old one. The pillows are amazing too. You kind of sink into it, and you’re perfectly aligned or something. It’s like witchcraft. I’ve never slept so well! I’ve had so many good nights sleep in a row.”

Is the Price Right?

Quality-wise, I think it’s fair to say the Double Origin Hybrid Pro is ahead of the competition. Their RRP is slightly more than Simba’s Hybrid Pro, but the extra depth and additional comfort are worth it, in my opinion. When you factor in Origin’s incredible sale price, the Origin is definitely the one I’d choose.

I’ll be seriously considering an Origin Hybrid Pro to replace our current mattresses, when the time comes.
