Today I’m sharing my perusals on a New York Bahamas Cruise for my 40th birthday. If you’ve read my blog for a while, you may know I turn 40 later this year. It doesn’t seem like 5 minutes ago since I was considering what to do for my 30th, but here we are! I’ve had a few ideas on ways to celebrate, but one of them is a New York Bahamas Cruise. Keep reading to find out what’s involved!
Why a New York Bahamas Cruise?
As a single mum, and a child with profound needs, I don’t get much down time. This means I love to tick off as many items from my bucket list in one go, as possible. Some call it efficient, I call it necessary! Three things on my bucket list are: Seeing a show on Broadway, visiting the Bahamas and going on a cruise. So when I heard that Royal Caribbean was running a New York Bahamas Cruise on the Anthem of the Seas, my interest was piqued.
What’s the Itinerary and Cost?
This 10 night trip starts with flights from Manchester to JFK, and 2 nights in New York. Your hotel is included, but you are free to do your own thing here. Then from days 3 to 10, you’re on the cruise! You have two full days on shore in the Bahamas. One in Cococay and another in Nassau. You’ll also get a day in Orlando too! When you arrive back in New York, you head back to JFK to fly home.
The costings are based on 2 people sharing a room, and prices start at £1859pp to travel over my birthday in November. Food and drink will of course bump this cost up a good amount, but you only turn 40 once, right?
Why a Cruise?
Many people have asked me why I want to go on a cruise. I’m not exactly the typical cruise clientele – I hate fancy clothes and food, have been vegetarian for 21 years and hate enclosed spaces. So what attracts me to cruises?
Honestly, the main appeal for me is the sea! I adore being on the water – it’s my happy place for sure! Imagine having a balcony and waking up in the morning to the sound of the sea right outside – I’d be in my absolute element! If we were lucky enough to see wild dolphins, that would tick another item off my bucket list as well!
What’s On Board?
The more I hear about Royal Caribbean cruises, the more I want to go on one! Here’s just a snippet of the activities available on the Anthem of the Seas cruise liner… Rock climbing, a Surfing simulator, bumper cars, roller disco, skydive simulator, circus school, sports courts, games room with xbox live, 2 outdoor pools, 4 whirlpools, an on-board library, spa, gym, music hall, theatre, bars, lounges and numerous eateries!
Land Ahoy!
The fact this New York Bahamas Cruise incorporates 5 days on land is a huge bonus for me! Getting 2 nights in a New York hotel means that not only can I tick seeing a show on Broadway off my bucket list, I can also see the Statue of Liberty and Central Park! My birthday falls a few days before thanksgiving, so sadly, we won’t be in town for the parade. I wonder if we could squeeze in a NY Yankees tour.
We’d be in Orlando on my birthday itself from 12-8pm. Disney World is 65 miles away, so probably too far to squeeze into such a short time frame. the Kennedy Space Center is only 9 miles away though, so I’d love to get my geek on there on my birthday itself!
CocoCay in the Bahamas sounds like my idea of paradise! I think it would have to be a day on a floating cabana! The day after sees the cruise liner dock in the capital of the Bahamas, Nassau. It’s famous for its coral reefs, so of course I’d need to go snorkelling! I’ve swam with sharks once before, you know!
Decisions Decisions
Realistically speaking, as much as I’d love to book a New York Bahamas Cruise for my 40th birthday, I think it would be too much for the kids, and I can’t get that sort of childcare. So it’ll more than likely be my 50th birthday before I get to go on a New York Bahamas Cruise.
