5 Unusual Hen Party Ideas

Sharing is Caring!

Today I’m sharing some unusual Hen party ideas. Back in 2009, one of my best friends asked me to be her chief bridesmaid. I was, of course thrilled to accept. Not only because I wanted to be part of her big day, but also to help plan her Hen Party! Keep reading to find out about the best unusual Hen party ideas I came up with, in the process!

Unusual Hen Party Ideas

Pre kids, I used to be out on the town pretty much every weekend. I’m from Manchester, so there were always plenty of Hen and Stag parties out as well. This was the starting point for my research into unusual Hen party ideas. I’m one of those people who talks to everyone, and Hen parties are no exception.

Unusual Hen Party Activities

If you’re after more inspiration for your hen do, especially something a bit different but still stylish, check out CoverStar Experiences. They’ve put together loads of classy hen party ideas in Liverpool that are perfect if you want something fun without the usual chaos.

Plenty of brides to be do spa days or cocktail classes, but not many consider playing poker as part of their celebrations.  Unfortunately for us, heading to Las Vegas to put it all on red was way out of our budget. I did manage to grab 6 of us a bargain 3 night break in Ibiza though.

We flew out on a Friday morning, and got back on the late Bank Holiday Monday in May. It worked out really well. We had breakfast included, and including flights it cost less that £150 each. The plan was, we’d have a calm-use night with food and a few drinks on the Friday night, the main Hen Night on the Saturday night, and then we’d have Sunday night to recover, before heading home. Nobody else knew it, but I was actually getting married the week we got home. I got married in secret, you see.

Dress Code or Fancy Dress

My friends and I also loved getting dressed up when we went abroad. We had a large collection of fancy dress we took on our girls holidays every year. I knew without a doubt that my friend would LOVE a fancy dress theme for her Hen Party, but finding the right theme wasn’t easy.

As I mentioned, we used to dress up all the time, so a lot of the traditional costumes were things we had already done. School girls, nuns, pirates wenches, sailors were all off the list. It got to the point we were considering formal wear. Then I remembered the groom to be worked in the building trade, and us all dressing up as builders quickly became the dress code.

If you’re wondering how to make the Hen Party costumes more distinctive. Using Custom Iron On Patches is a great idea. Custom iron-on patches can have some unique logos, such as the Hen Party’s slogan, Bride to be’s new surname, or they can be customised according to the theme of the party.

For example, if it is a construction worker theme, you can customise patches with various construction tool patterns, such as hammers, wrenches, electric drills, etc, and sew them on the Hen Party’s high-vis vests, to add a sense of detail.

Alternatively, if you’re all going out dressed as Biker Chicks like another friend did, then customised denim jackets will look amazing, and they can be worn after the event as well.

Custom Patches are a great option for customising fancy dress costumes.

Hen Night Scavenger Hunt

I’d seen other hen parties doing scavenger hunts over the years, and knew I had to make one for us to do! On the night, all 6 of us got into pairs, and the team who completed all 20 challenges on the scavenger hunt the fastest, won. This is definitely one of the most fun unusual hen party ideas I’ve been a part of.

The challenges included things like finding an old guy and asking him if he had a condom you could have, asking a stranger for a piggy back, asking a DJ to play some Barry Manilow etc. We had to get photos of the challenges as they happened too – it was all very serious!

Bridal Shower

I’d seen lots of people planning really sentimental Bridal showers over the years, but that’s not my style at all – or my friend’s. She had a second Hen Party in Manchester, so that the rest of her female loved ones could celebrate too. It was in a local cabaret club, which encouraged you to put together a range of gifts for the bride to be.

The box I put together contained things like bedroom toys, handcuffs, lingerie and a list of rules for her husband to be to familiarise himself with… Namely that his wife was always right. This box went down a storm, and even the older relatives were laughing as the bride to be opened each gift!

So there you have it – 5 unusual hen party ideas. Let me know in the comments if you can think of any more!
