Top 5 Products for an Effective Minimalist Skincare Routine

Sharing is Caring!

Today I’m sharing the top 5 products for an effective minimalist skincare routine. Skincare has become a bit complicated nowadays. Many skincare routines you see on social media consist of more than four steps at least twice a day, which can be expensive, overwhelming and time-consuming, especially for busy working mums.

Effective Minimalist Skincare Routine for Mums

Honestly, I am definitely not someone who spends a lot of time on skincare or make-up. I spend around 5 minutes, twice a day on my effective minimalist skincare routine. Then another 3 minutes putting on make-up in the morning. So read on to find out what I recommend as part of a effective minimalist skincare routine.

Sometimes more is not better. Using too many products on the face may be detrimental to the skin.  You may also require lots of time to apply the make-up, and you can often end up looking over made-up. You can achieve a great complexion with a minimalist skincare routine that just includes those products that your skin really needs.

Here are the must-haves for an effective minimalist skincare routine:

Cleanse and Tone

It is important that you cleanse your face each evening to get rid of makeup residue and oil that has accumulated during the day. Purchasing the right cleanser for your skin type is crucial, because it will aid in the removal of dirt, deep within your skin where soap and water cannot reach, without causing irritation. I’m a big fan of a cream cleaner and washable, reusable cotton pads. (These are a game changer! Not only are they better for the environment, they also remove make-up far better than the cotton wool equivalent).

Cleansing and Toning are essential for an effective minimalist skincare routine

I use a toner after cleansing my skin. This is something I only added to my effective minimalist skincare routine recently. It takes around 45 seconds, twice a day, and my large pores have reduced since I have been toning my skin!

Moisturiser

You need to have at least one hydrator in your daily skincare routine. If you have dry or sensitive skin, opt for a something rich like the Blue Lagoon moisturizing cream that can be worn both during the day and at night. Additionally, you can opt for a product that has both occlusive and humectant properties. Such a product has both oil and water, which enables you to enjoy the best of both worlds.

Your skin can change a lot during pregnancy and the months following it, so you may need to adjust your skincare routine during pregnancy.

Sunscreen (SPF)

Unless you are going to be staying indoors for days on end, you need to wear sunscreen whenever you are going out. Depending on the time of day and the length of time you will be staying out in the open, you may need different levels of protection (SPF). If your skin is not overly dry, that sunscreen can also help keep it supple and hydrated all day.

I’m all for multi-tasking and choose to wear a BB Cream which is SPF 20. This means I get to skip a step and my effective minimalist skincare routine is even faster!

The 3 steps above are my basic regime, but if you want to take it up a notch, you can add the following:

Eye Cream

The skin around the eyes is finer and lighter than the rest of the face. It also traps moisture due to the folds around the eyes. Therefore, it is likely to have fine lines and wrinkles. Go for a product with hyaluronic acid or for one with caffeine if you need to de-puff the eyes, and another with brighteners to deal with black circles

Exfoliator

Exfoliation is not needed every day, but it is good to do it at least once or twice a week. You can use a mild exfoliator if you would like to exfoliate three times a week but be careful not to stress out your skin. Exfoliation keeps your skin looking bright and can also help deal with hyperpigmentation. Acid exfoliators are the best and can be used at regular intervals without causing negative effects on the skin.

There are many more products you may buy for your skin, including peptides, Vitamin C, and extra antioxidants. You can use them on special occasions, when you have extra cash or when you need to pamper your skin.
