New Look Maternity Wear

I was recently sent a selection of New Look Maternity Wear to try. It is only available in selected stores, and online at the moment. Until recently, I was not aware New Look even had a maternity range. The collection is huge, though – Definitely one of the biggest, and best value High Street collections I have found. (I have listed the New Look stores currently stocking maternity wear at the bottom of this blog post).

I was sent 2 Maxi Dresses, retailing at £19.99 each, a 3 pack of bump bands, retailing at £9.99, a pair of skinny Jeans, retailing at £15.99, a Black vest top, costing £5.99 (or 2 for £10), a Cream, seamed back TShirt, retailing at £6.99 (or 2 for £10), and a Black and White striped vest top, costing £7.99.

I have now worn and washed most pieces, so would like to share my thoughts.

The Maxi Dresses are perfect for the hot weather. They have deep V’s down the back (which can be covered with a shrug or cardigan if you prefer). The attached tie belt helps to add definition to the dress and stops it looking like a tent. I actually appeared to have a waist when I wore them! Length wise, I am tall at 5 foot 9, and my ankles were covered. My bump is on the small side for 36 weeks pregnant, though. If you are shorter than I am and bump is large, chances are it’ll still sit right on you, as well. The dress washed well, and I was complimented when I wore it. It works well for Summer events, or just for keeping cool in the office with a shrug or cardigan to cover your back. At £19.99 each, these are fabulous value in my opinion. I would like to add though, that they are generously sized. I am a size 16 in all other brands of maternitywear, and this was a bit loose on my shoulders/chest (I am small chested though). My advice: choose a size down if you’re smaller than a C cup – the waist is loose enough to get away with it.

Bump Bands were my saviour earlier in my pregnancy. They allowed me to continue to wear my normal clothes for longer. They basically extend the length of your top, and hug onto your trousers to help keep them up, too. The images on the New Look website shows them being worn over a top, but I always wore mine underneath the top, then over the bottoms. I guess it’s a preference thing. Size wise, M-L is around a size 14. They are a little tight for me now I am 36 weeks, but they are aimed at ladies in the 1st and 2nd Trimester, usually, so if you’re looking for an affordable way to continue wearing your non maternity clothes, these are perfect. They washed well, and the quality was good too. 3 for £9.99 is also great value! I loved being able to wear my jeans with the button undone, safe in the knowledge my bump band would keep them up!

The Skinny Jeans felt great quality, and were really stylish. The length was good too. One thing to note, though is they don’t have the elastic waist adjusters in them, you find in other brands, so they were a bit loose on me. They are under bump cut, too, and generously sized. I’d probably buy these in a size smaller, if you’re all bump – like I am. They washed really well, and ironed easily too. I got several compliments when wearing the jeans, and I was happy to find jeans in a style I’d wear even when I’m not pregnant! I’d definitely recommend these to a friend.

The Black vest top was a good length – I was able to wear it with leggings and keep my derriere covered up! It was comfy to wear, too. My one niggle was the fact the chest area seemed a bit over generous. I am only a B cup, and my bra was on show through the arm holes. I got around this by wearing it with a shrug, but if you’re smaller than a C cup, I’d definitely buy a size smaller than usual in this too. There’s plenty of room in the bump section to get away with it. You can get 2 for £10 on a huge range of New Look Maternity tops, which makes this top great value!

The cream seamed back TShirt really flattered my bump. It was sized well, and was comfy to wear. It is a little thin though, and my bra was visible through it. The seem on the back added a bit of style to the top, but because my bra was visable, I wore it with a cardigan. A word of advice: Don’t wear it on a wet day! I got caught in the rain and looked like I was a contestant in a wet TShirt contest! It is a nice top, though, and cool to wear on hot days. It is also part of the 2 for £10 deal on Maternity tops, so great value at that price. I would buy this in your normal size.

The Black and White Vest top was one of my favourite pieces. It can be dressed up or down, so is a great addition to your maternity wardrobe. It feels cool and comfortable, and washes well. Length wise, it covered me well, so I could wear it with leggings. I also wore it with jeans and heels for a smarter look. As with the other vest top, the chest area is a bit big on me, so if you’re smaller than a C cup, I’d order this a size smaller than your usual size. There’s plenty of room for your bump, too. I would definitely recommend this top. The £7.99 price tag is reasonable too, considering it can be worn in so many ways.

Here’s a few photos of me in the Maternity tops, and the jeans. Excuse the state of me – I’m no supermodel!!

All in all, I am a huge fan of the New Look Maternity range. The sizes are a little generous for smaller chested ladies, but as long as you’re aware of that, you can get some amazing pieces at great prices. I’ll definitely be recommending the New Look Maternity Collection to other mums to be.

This is not a sponsored post. I was sent the clothing to review, but all opinions and words are my own.
