Today I’m sharing some ways to save money by updating your bathroom. It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of saving money. Whether it’s using deals to get the best price on purchases, or choosing energy efficient options, it makes me happy knowing I’m saving some pennies without sacrificing quality.
Last year, I partially updated the bathroom. It was literally still in its original 1954 state, which I loved, but the tiles were falling off and I needed a shower installing over the bath. Water Saving Toilet Flush
The toilet isn’t the most glamorous item within most bathrooms, but it’s probably the easiest place to save money. Water bills are creeping up, so cutting down water where you can is a no brainer. GROHE water saving flush systems do just that.
These systems are designed for use with wall-hung and back-to-wall toilets. The concealed dual-flush cisterns allow the user to choose how much water to use when flushing their toilet.
The Grohe range allows you to choose between single flushing, start/stop flushing and dual flushing. A dual-flush toilet offers a choice of two flush volumes – a large, 6 litre and small, 3 litre flush.
Cisterns can also be adjusted to flush with a reduced volume of 4.5 litres and 3 litres. Halving your flush from 6 to 3 litres is one of the best ways to save money in the bathroom.
Swap to LED Bathroom Lighting
Older bathroom lights had lower energy efficiency ratings, so cost more to run. The average house can save over £60 a year by swapping all of their lights to LED. If your kids are anything like mine, the bathroom light is probably on more often than not, so this simple swap could save you a small fortune! Swap out your Showerhead
If your shower-head or shower hose is dripping or has low pressure, swapping them can save you money.
It typically takes longer to shower if the water pressure is bad, and swapping your shower head can help with this to some extent. (You may need to look at a shower pump if the pressure is terrible on a non-electric shower though).
You’ll save money on the reduced water usage by fixing the leak, using less water and also using less energy if you have an electric shower! This means swapping your showerhead could be one of the easiest ways to save money in your bathroom!
Turn Down the Combi Boiler
Most of us discovered last year that turning down the boiler temperature can reduce our central heating bills. The same can be said for turning down your water temperature too.
Dropping it from 100% to 66% will mean your combi boiler isn’t working as hard, so your energy consumption will be reduced. The fact the water is a little cooler won’t be noticeable unless you regularly run your hot tap at 100 degrees without adding any cold to it. You’ll just find you’re adding less cold water, and baths will fill up faster. It’s always worth doing if you need a family friendly bathroom.

Open the Window
If your bathroom steams up, despite you having a bathroom fan, cracking the window open while you shower or while you get dressed will allow the steam to escape faster, and reduce energy consumption from prolonged fan use.
Opening the window will also help prevent damp and mould as the bathroom won’t be steamed up for extended periods of time, thanks to the improved ventilation. This in turn will mean your bathroom is a more pleasant place to be.
