Today I’m sharing my turning 40 bucket list for mums. I can’t believe that I’m turning 40 soon. It feels line two minutes ago I was writing a blog post on turning 30. Now here I am… 81 days away from the big 4-0. So much has changed in the 11 years since I wrote that post. I’ll get into that in another post though. Today, I’m sharing my turning 40 bucket list for mums. It’s full of things I wanted to do after I reach 40.
I’m Turning 40 Soon
Before I continue, I want to point out that this isn’t a list anyone should obsess about completing. It’s just a list of things I’d like to do when I turn 40. (I’m not going to put a cut off date on this – it’s just a list of things I’d like to do once I’m a “grown up”.
It’s also worth pointing out I’m a special needs single mum, so you may have already ticked off a good amount of these which have so far been out of reach for my family & I.

When it comes to classes, there are so many I’d love to do. I could easily have added 50 others to the above list.
Life as a special needs parent means there’s not much time to do things outside of the house. Realistically, I won’t get the chance to travel far in the next decade. So my own turning 40 bucket list is a bit different to the one I’ve shared above…

And Here’s my personal turning 40 bucket list…
- Take the kids on holiday for 7+ nights
- Go abroad for a few days without the kids
- Do Stand up paddle boarding
- Join regular wild swims
- Go to Ireland
- Enjoy a romantic weekend away
- Get back into Radio Presenting
- Do a writing class
- Start writing the book you’ve been procrastinating for 15 years
- Become financially secure
I spent the second half of last year laid up with 2 bulging discs, which left me physically unable to do much. This year, I’ve tried to make up for that, and ticked off one and a half of the turning 40 bucket list for mums items… Not only have I taken the kids on two short breaks, I’ve managed to fit in some paddle boarding in between. There’s nothing like being out on the water to clear your head – it’s incredible!
Making Progress
Admittedly, I didn’t manage to actually stand up on the paddle board… Who knew being 15 stone and 5’10 made it harder to actually get upright? I still loved it on my knees though and will continue to work towards standing up on that board in the coming months and years!
I also took myself off to a local waterfall and pond last month, intending to do a wild swim. Unfortunately, the pond was too shallow and rocky to actually swim. I did stand under the waterfall though, which was incredible! You can watch the reel by clicking here if it doesn’t load below!
