I have super pale skin and burn very easily. This has always made me very careful in the sun. Sydney is 3 now, and has the same pale complexion as me. This means that during the warmer months, I am forever applying suncream to her – much to her dismay. When I was asked to do a Cicciobello Sunny Doll review, I was very intrigued… A doll which tans (or burns), when exposed to UV rays sounded like just the thing to teach Sydney about the dangers of the sun….

Cicciobello Sunny Doll Review

Cicciobello Sunny Doll Review

Cicciobello Sunny is aimed at children aged 3+ and stands at 33cm tall (or just over 16 inches, if you prefer old skool measurements). He comes dressed in a cute vest and shorts set, and the box also contains a pair of sunglasses and a UV necklace for Sunny, plus a UV bracelet for your child.

Rather than spending ages describing what is included in the box, I made this unboxing and demo video…

My 3 year old responded really well to the doll, and took a real shine to the bracelet. She wore the bracelet when she went to our allotment with her dad (who forgot to snap any photos). When it turned purple, she asked her dad to put her suncream on.

Unfortunately, we haven’t had any sunny weekend days, so I haven’t been able to show Sydney the doll changing colour yet. I did manage to get this video of it to show her though, and she was amazed at how quickly he got “burnt” in the sun.

My Thoughts

The doll itself doesn’t require any batteries, and can be fully submerged in water – I’m really looking forward to Sunny getting to splash around in the paddling pool in the Summer. I think it’ll be a really good way for me to know when I need to apply sunscreen to the kids, too.

With an RRP of £29.99, Cicciobello Sunny is a really cute boy doll. The added UV factor makes him really unique and a great way to discuss sun safety with young children. He can sit up unaided and has self closing eyes when he lies down.

All told, I really like the doll. I think it is a really good way of teaching children about the dangers of the sun. I’d like to see some extra accessories available – perhaps pretend suncream and a hat. It’s a little disappointing the arms and legs don’t change colour,. As arms (especially shoulders) are so easily burnt on children. Other than that, it’s perfect though, and UI’d highly recommend it.

Finally, read more of my reviews here.

This is not a sponsored post. I was sent the doll to review, but all words and opinions are my own.
