I recently saw an infographic about the coolest cars from 1980s film and tv, and it got me thinking about which 80’s car I’d love to lease for the weekend… I know I’m a bit of a geek, but some of the included cars were pretty cool.
Coolest cars from 1980s TV
Knight Rider’s KITT for example was pretty spectacular, but I can barely manage the controls in my Insignia, so I think KITT would be the death of me. I guess we’d be putting his body armour through its’ paces, but I doubt I’d get my deposit back. He definitely qualifies as one of the coolest cars from 1980s though.
It’s no secret I am a massive Batman fan, but the Batmobile doesn’t scream 80’s to me. The TV show was from the 60s and the films were from the 90s onwards, so the Batmobile is out of the running on a technicality.
coolest cars from 1980s Films
If I mention the DeLorean DMC-12, do you know what I am talking about? If you recognise the name Marty McFly, chances are you too spent the 80s wishing you could take Michael J. Fox’s place and go Back to the Future. Doc and Marty were basically my heroes. I spent an entire summer in the 90s wishing they’d come to MY future and take me away from the boredom of rainy summer holidays. They didn’t show up, and I’m still a little bitter about that! I think the DeLorean DMC-12 definitely counts as one of the coolest cars from 1980s films – don’t you agree?
The DeLorean wasn’t the only vehicle from the Back to the Future series I dreamed of owning though. The self – lacing shoes and the hoverboard were definitely top of my Christmas Wish list. (They still are if I’m being honest)!
The A Team
One vehicle springs to my mind when I think of 1980s TV wasn’t featured in Vertu Lease Cars’ infographic – The A-Team’s Van. Be honest – You’re humming the theme tune too, aren’t you? This TV show was released the year I was born, but I still remember watching it as a little kid, and my Dad hummed the theme tune for years. It doesn’t get much cooler than Mr T jumping out of his van to come and save the day! If I was ever dealing with someone else’s road rage, I would love the A Team on standby!
Finally, if I could lease ANY car from 1980s TV and Films, it would have to be James Bond’s Aston Martin V8 Vantage from The Living Daylights.
Hopefully I wouldn’t need the missiles or laser cutters. I’d prefer to just enjoy a weekend driving round in the Summer sunshine with the top down. Timothy Dalton isn’t my favourite Bond, and the V8 Vantage isn’t my favourite bond car. So a weekend cruising round in this would definitely be more exciting than another weekend in our Vauxhall!
What about you? Which 80s car do you wish you could lease for a weekend?
