I cannot believe we are on week 50 already! Where does time go? Last week, I LOVED Hello Archie’s Dungarees outfit – It was beyond cute and made my ovaries ache! I also adored the bargain Zara Pinafore shared by Eat Love Live London – I’m not usually a big Zara fan, but this post has definitely spurred me on to have a nosey in store the next time I’m passing.
Week 50 – DIY Kids Play Clothes
This week, I was clearing out Syd’s old long sleeved tops which she will have grown out of before it’s cold enough to wear them again. I was clearing space, ready to buy her some new vest tops for messing around in this Summer.
We are spending so much time at the allotment, that buying her new stuff is frustrating as it ends up covered in mud, and ruined within minutes of the first wear! So I decided that rather than getting rid of the old tops, I’d cut off the sleeves and the necks to make her some funky, roll hem vest tops. What do you think of this for DIY kids play clothes?
She hasn’t worn them yet, but I’ll be sure to share photos on social media when she does. I’m ashamed to say that I’m not usually bothered about saving money. I give all the kids old stuff to friends or charity, then buy new stuff. It was oddly satisfying creating something Syd needed from something I was about to get rid of. Who knew I was an upcycler!!
UPDATE on the DIY play clothes
Syd loved her “new and improved” Kitty top. She wore it with pride and it washed well too. The unseen hems rolled, which was the look I was going for with these DIY kids play clothes. I’ll definitely make more as she gets bigger.
Syd has also had me turning her old clothes into dolls clothes recently, so that’s another way to epicycle clothes kids grow out of. I especially love to do this with stuff that’s heavily soiled or badly ripped. Basically, if it’s too tatty to pass on, I turn it into a “baby nappy” or dress for her beloved dolly or teddy.
I’ve saved a fortune doing this so it’s worth giving it a whirl. (I do it all by hand as I’m not confident with a sewing machine). Maybe it’ll be easier for you to use a machine, but it’s not required for making these DIY kids play clothes.
