Delicious Costa Style Orange Hot Chocolate Recipe

Sharing is Caring!

Today I’m sharing my version of Costa’s Terry’s Chocolate Orange Hot Chocolate Recipe. Every Winter, I become a hot chocolate junkie! I cannot get enough of the stuff. Previously, I haven’t been able to get enough of Costa’s Black Forest Hot Chocolate.

This season, I have become addicted to the Costa Terry’s Chocolate Orange hot chocolate available in Costa. With that in mind, today I am sharing my Costa Style orange hot chocolate recipe. Read on to find out how to make it at home!

I like to recreate them at home. So I thought I’d share my at-home recipe for Orange hot chocolate (pictured below-right with my homemade Costa style Black Forest hot chocolate on the left).

They are similar in taste, although the Costa one comes with an amazing Chocolate waffle melt on top – I haven’t managed to create or source those – YET! I have, however, managed to recreate a homemade Orange hot chocolate, which is almost identical to in-store ones.

This orange hot chocolate recipe is my concoction which is pretty close to the store-bought drinks I have been inhaling every day for the past 6 weeks! Here goes!

To Make 1 Drink, You Will Need:

  • 2 heaped tsp Cocoa (NOT hot chocolate – it’s not the same)!
  • 250ml Milk. I prefer skimmed but the stores use Semi-Skimmed as standard. It works best with coconut milk, if you’re dairy free.
  • 30ml Monin Orange Syrup (Available from Amazon)

Optional:

Method:

1). Firstly, heat the milk. (This takes approximately 3 minutes in our microwave, but keep an eye on it as it varies).

2). Next, while the milk is heating, add the cocoa and Monin Orange Syrup to your glass.

3). Once the milk is warm, add a dash of milk (around 30ml) to the glass and stir until smooth, then return the remaining milk to the microwave.

4). Once the milk is hot, half fill the glass with the hot milk and stir well.

5). (Optional) Froth the remaining milk using a milk frother (We use an Aerolatte Milk Frother).

6). Add this to the glass – while holding back the foam.

7). Next, sweeten to taste (I add 1 teaspoon of sugar and stir well).

8). Add the froth to the top of the drink and then gently stir. (It’ll then look like the image below-right).

9). Finally… ENJOY!

If you want to go all – out, you can add squirty cream on top, and then a segment of Terry’s Chocolate Orange, like they do in-store. YUM!

Verdict:

I absolutely love this hot chocolate. Personally, I prefer it without the cream, for a lighter drink. It’s super warming without the heaviness of many festive hot chocolate drinks, so it’s perfect if you’ve got lots to do and don’t want that post drink sleepy-full feeling.

Finally, let me know in the comments what your festive drink is. I think the Black Fostes Hot Chocolate wins for me, but I do enjoy this orange one too, especially when I want a lighter drink.

P.S. I’ve been considering buying a Hotel Chocolat Velvetier for years, but I am yet to take the plunge – do you have one? I’d love to know your thoughts on whether it’s worth buying, and your favourite velvetier orange hot chocolate recipe.
