The House Refurbishment – Part 2 Bad News!

Sharing is Caring!

Today I’m sharing part 2 of my house refurbishment. If you read my blog regularly, you probably already know I am in the middle of refurbishing my childhood home, ready for the kids and I to move into. In case you’ve not read the previous house refurbishment updates, you can find them all here. I’m 8 weeks in now, and progress has been slow up until this past week.

The House Refurbishment – Update

Last week, the new boiler was FINALLY installed! Hurrah! The fact the house is now warm means I could recommence operation get everywhere scrubbed. Last weekend involved washing the downstairs windows and blinds – which was no mean feat…

They were all yellow with nicotine stains and stunk. I put a cap full of bleach in with the blinds, figuring they’d need throwing out anyway, so it was worth trying it to see how they came out. I’m happy to report they survived the ordeal and will do for now. I’ll replace all of the blinds in the house next year, once the French Doors go into the dining room.

Video Progress…

Here’s another walk through video which I recorded on Saturday 16th November, 2019…

The video goes into detail about the problems I’ve faced, jobs I’ve done and the plans for what’s ahead…

Rewire Week

This week is full electrical rewire week, so the house is basically a war zone right now! It’s day 3, and all of the new cables are in, the back boxes for the new sockets are in and the plastering is happening now. Here’s a few photos to show you the level of chaos…

The unexpected Rewire was an expensive addition to the house refurbishment.

The rewire of this 3 bed Semi has cost £4300. That’s wothout factoring in for all the redecorating I’ll have to do afterwards. Still… I”m glad it’s happening at this stage of the house refurbishment, and not in 3 years, when I’ve paid for all of the plastering, flooring and decorating.

I’m beyond happy my Dado Rail survived the cutting process… My Dad and I put it up back in 1999, so I was keen to keep it. My plan is to strip the wood back and paint it white eventually, so it’ll look brighter in the room. So that’s where I’m up to with the house refurbishment right now… Check back soon for another update, and to see how the rewire went!
