My 3 year old daughter, Syd already has subscriptions to CBeebies and Something Special magazine. She loves it when they arrive and she spends hours doing the stickers and colouring in. We do the educational activities together during 1-1 time, too.
Sydney is a HUGE Elmo fan. She worships him, and has pretty much every Elmo themed toy available. She is a big fan of the Furchester Hotel tv show, so when I heard that The Furchester Hotel Magazine was being made, I knew she’d love it!
We received the first issue a little early in order to give you a little sneaky peek inside the cover, and to share our thoughts…
The magazine follows the adventures of the show’s main characters…Cookie Monster, Elmo and Phoebe Furchester. Other characters from the show are featured as well. The free gift in this issue is a “Make your own portrait” set. It contains everything you need to make felt portraits of Elmo, Cookie Monster and Phoebe. (The main characters from the Furchester TV show). The front cover is bright and eye catching. The back cover has a cut-out Cookie Monster mask printed on it, and assembly instructions.
The magazine is out once a month, and costs £2.75. It supports the Early Years Curriculum and is aimed at 3 to 6 year olds. Issue 1 contains 36 pages in total (including the front and back covers). It also contains 60 stickers, to be used within the magazine.
Once you get inside the magazine, you realise exactly how educational it really is. Some of the pages ask you to colour in the answer, so even children who can’t yet write can engage with the activities. Syd used to do these type of activities at 2 years old. I’d read her the tasks, and she would choose the right colour and scribble away. It’s a great way to introduce young children to mark making , improve their pen control and confidence.
There are lots of matching games, counting challenges, puzzles and stories for children to enjoy, plus an A4 Elmo poster, a kids go free to Sea Life Voucher and a sneak preview into what issue 2 contains…!
As well as lots of fun, educational content, there’s lots of great craft activities too. There’s the Cookie Monster mask I mentioned earlier, the Make Your Own Portraits free gift, some fun Elmo and Phoebe cut out hand puppets and several colouring in activities.
I love the fact that the included activity book is loaded with tips for parents to expand the learning. Page 2 tells you what areas of learning are covered within the magazine – I found this really interesting to read.
The magazine contains 2 Furchester Hotel stories in comic book style. There are great fun to read together. We have done a page or two from the magazine each day, rather than doing it all at once. For the £2.75 RRP I think the magazine is a great purchase. Issue 1 is available to buy from today (29th July) from newsagents.
This is not a sponsored post. I was sent a copy for the purpose of this review, but all words and opinions are my own.
