As the name of my blog suggests, I am a GEEK! More specifically, I’m a Superhero / Nintendo / book geek. When the 1 Up Box team got in touch and asked me to review one of their boxes, I was more than a little excited!
Each 1 Up Box is available as a one off purchase for $29.95. Alternatively, you can subscribe to reduce the cost a little each month. Each box contains at least 5 geeky surprises and one of those is always a T-Shirt.
What Is A 1 Up Box?
1 Up Box is an American Subscription Box, so it does take a while to arrive. It took almost 3 weeks for my box to get here. Rather than spending ages telling you about the packaging and contents, I made this youtube video so you can see the contents for yourself…
As you can see, there’s plenty of exciting things crammed inside! The 1 Up Box does not fit through a letterbox, so I did have to collect mine from the post office. Once I had it in my hands, I was very excited and immediately understood the appeal of subscription boxes. It was a bit like being a 6 year old on Christmas Morning. It took a lot of willpower not to rip open the packaging in the sorting office!
What Was In My 1 Up Box?
Once home, I set about opening the box and was excited to find a Leo plush toy. I was a huge TMNT fan way back in the day, and my daughter is starting to enjoy the show now too. The Face-Off fridge magnets were funky, but as we have a built in fridge, they aren’t really something I can see getting used.
The Batman VS Superman Pin was pinned onto my handbag straight after making the above video – I am a huge Batman fan, and my sister is a huge Wonder Woman fan. So there was a bit of a battle of wills as to who would get to keep the pin… I lost! Here it is in close – up. It’s metal and feels really well made. It has a butterfly back, like on an earring – not a traditional badge style fastening.
The Post-it notes are already half gone – I am a big post-it user! These really did make me smile. The shoe laces are funky and I can see myself popping them into my converse once the weather improves a bit – I’d cry if they got covered in mud!
The Batman VS Superman Tee is exclusive to the 1 Up box, and isn’t available anywhere else. It is definitely my favourite item from this month’s box, and it has had lots of compliments. Here’s a close up of the image, just in case the video wasn’t clear enough…
All told, I really liked the 1 Up Box, and can definitely see the appeal. As a parent, I can’t really justify $29.95 a month, but I will definitely be buying my brothers boxes for their birthdays in future!
I was sent the box for the purpose of this review. All words and opinions are my own.
