SANDS (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society) is a National charity, set up in 1981. It was set up by bereaved parents, and has 3 aims.
anyone affected by the death of a baby.
2). To work in partnership with health professionals to and services offered to bereaved families.
3). To and changes in practice that could help to reduce the loss of babies’ lives
There are around 90 SANDS support groups up and down the UK, and they are all run by volunteers. These groups provide much needed support for parents who have suffered the loss of a baby. I have several friends who have benefitted massively from them, so it is a charity close to my heart.
North Manchester SANDS need to raise funds to purchase some beds, so that partners of the ladies can
stay over night. SANDS also provide memory
boxes. This is a lovely box given to bereaved parents, which contains a lock of
their baby’s hair, hand and foot prints, and a knitted teddy. These are not available on NHS, so charity events are held to raise the much needed cash.
Some of my friends are helping to organise a Ball in Manchester to
raise money for the North Manchester SANDS group. This money will be
put towards making a baby garden. People can use it to get a little space and quiet
within the North Manchester General Hospital grounds.
I was invited to attend the ball to help raise funds. In all honesty, black tie events are my idea of hell, so I said I would try to raise awareness of the event, instead. I am also attempting to get some prizes for them to raffle/auction off on the night to help raise some funds. Previous events have helped North Manchester SANDS to purchase 2 x cold cots. These allow the babies to stay with the parents instead of having to go
to the mortuary.
If you are in the Manchester area and would like to attend the ball, give me a shout and I can get you through to the right people. It’s on 27th April at the Palace Hotel. The tickets are £45 each, which includes an arrival drink, three course meal
with coffee and petit fours, half a bottle of wine and entertainment for
the evening. £10 from each ticket sale goes to SANDS (charity no 299679).
If you would like to donate money to SANDS, you can do so HERE.
If you or your company would like to donate a prize to be raffled/ auctioned off on the evening, please use the contact me form, or comment below and I will get in touch. All prize donators will get a huge thank you on the night, plus a big grateful thank you from yours truly in my next SANDS blog post.
Thanks in advance everyone.
