I haven’t shared an update on our allotment for a while. Mostly because progress has been slow. The weather has hampered hubby’s progress. He dug a huge hole as part of the “double digging” process, and it became a pond overnight! I’m finally sharing another update today though, so keep reading for news on how it’s going!

An update on our allotment

It took him a couple of weeks to get “the pond” sorted, then he set to work assembling raised beds. Hubby’s been going alone for the most part, but I packed him off with Sydney a couple of weeks back.

I have very happy memories of spending afternoons sat by the water eating picnics, while my Dad fished. So I decided it was only fair that I sent Syd on her merry way with a picnic large enough to feed all of the allotment owners!

Picnic Time

DaddyGeek tells me that as soon as they got there (9.30am) she insisted it was time for her “nicnic”. Of course, there’s no reasoning with a 2 years old, so her blanket was laid out, and Daddygeek laid out her feast.

Picnic o'clock on our allotment

I have it on very good authority that she inhaled her “nicnic” before demanding it was time to go home and see Mummy and Sam! She was home by 10.30am!

I really hope that once the plants are established at the allotment, she will happily spend time down there with her Daddy. Until then…. it looks set to be short visits for this reluctant country kid!

A week or so later, the bench my throne arrived at the allotment. Sam and I decided to honour hubby with our presence and sat watching him work away.

The view of our allotment

As you can see from the above photo…. he still has a LOT of digging to do!!

DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT a gardener – I agreed to Hubby getting the allotment purely so I could A). Pack him off with the kids in tow and B). Get cheaper coffee and cake at the yummy Bents garden centre restaurant across the road!
