A Star Is Born
Starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, A Star Is Born was a huge hit in 2018. It is a romantic musical drama that cleaned up at the box office. It won multiple accolades, including the prize for Best Original Song at the Oscars. Alongside plenty more nominations.
The film itself follows a heavy drinking musician who falls in love with a young singer . It is also based upon the original 1937 movie of the same name. You can find it on a number of streaming services. So there’s no better way to get you in a romantic mood this Valentine’s Day.
Released in 2015 and starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara… This movie is based upon 1952 novel The Price of Salt. It is set in New York during that era. This film tells the story of a forbidden love affair between an older woman going through divorce and an ambitious female photographer, in what is a truly stunning picture.
It caused a lot of controversy due to its subject matter. But it is critically acclaimed and one of the best romantic films currently out there. With plenty of Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
On a slightly lighter note is Forgetting Sarah Marshall. This is a film which is full of good humour and laugh out loud moments. Starring Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis and Jason Segal, as well as a brilliant appearance from Russell Brand… The film sees Segal travel to Hawaii to forget about his recent break-up… Only to find his former lover enjoying a holiday with her new partner in the same resort.
However, there’s a love interest in the form of the hotel receptionist. So the film charts the progression of a rather unconventional love triangle. Released way back in 2008, it’s certainly stood the test of time and is certainly one for anyone looking for a top quality rom com.
